Manually Downloading ScoutPalDB

This procedure is ONLY for unusual and unlikely cases where a user cannot use the ScoutPalDB2 Easy Updater.

(Mac users, please read our FAQ.)

Preparation:  Carefully read and follow Step 1 and Step 2 (only those steps!) in the ScoutPalDB setup written instructions.

When updating, your card will already have outdated files and folders on it so you must either A) reformat the data card first; or B) copy the updates over the existing files/folders but be sure to always choose "Copy and Replace" when prompted.

We recommend that you use "Copy/Paste" procedures instead of "drag and drop", as it is less prone to error.  If you do prefer to use "drag and drop" instead of "Copy/Paste", just BE SURE to drop into a blank space in the destination window, and always select "Copy and Replace" when prompted.  Don't drop or paste a folder on top of itself, you'll wind up with folders inside of folders inside of folders inside of folders .... like Russian Matryoshka dolls.

Basics of Windows file/folder "Copy/Paste" procedures for ScoutPalDB updates:

Use any of the lettered methods listed below.  Simply use the methods that work best with you and your computer.

To Copy an updated file or folder:

  1. Right-click the item you want to copy, then choose Copy from the popup menu.

  2. Left-click the item to select it, then hold down Ctrl and press C to Copy.

  3. If you see a menu near the window top with "File  Edit  View ... etc." choices:
Left-click the item, then choose Edit/Copy.

  4. If you see an "Organize" choice near the window top:
Left-click the item, then choose Organize/Copy

Note that you probably won't notice anything happen after you have done a "Copy", although you may hear a "click."  That's OK, the Windows "Copy" operation is passive.

To Paste a copied file or folder:

IMPORTANT: Regardless of the method used to paste, be sure to always choose "Copy and Replace" when prompted!

  1. Right-click in a blank white space in the destination, then choose Paste.

  2. Left-click in a blank white space, then hold down Ctrl and press V to Paste.

  3. If you see a menu near the window top with "File  Edit  View ... etc." choices:
Left-click in a blank space, then choose Edit/Paste.

  4. If you see an "Organize" choice near the window top:
Left-click in a blank space, then choose Organize/Paste.
