ScoutPalSE4 for
BoostMobile i415

The ScoutPalSE4 or ScoutPalSE3 scanner systems are available for Motorola BoostMobile i415 phones, as pictured above.  BoostMobile is a "Pay-as-you-go" cellular carrier, no contract is required.

Use of ScoutPal requires that you provision your phone with "web browsing" when activating it with Boost.  Boost charges only 35c per day for unlimited web usage, which works out to just a little over $10 a month.  When you activate the phone with Boost, a phone number will be assigned to it, and you can certainly use the phone for voice calls if you wish, but you don't have to.  Just don't place or answer any calls, and your BoostMobile prepaid balance will not be charged for voice services.  In this way, you can have a pay-as-you-go scanner phone that only costs you around $10/mo to operate, and no contract is required.  (Learn more about prepaid phone services...)

Although the i415 handset is no longer available for purchase new directly from Boost, they can sometimes be found at Boost retailers, such as Wal-Mart, although they are getting scarce.  They are usually available for sale on eBay.  (caveat emptor)  If you purchase a cell phone on eBay, be sure to read the fine print in the auction listing, and confirm that it comes with a SIM card.  Ask the seller to be sure.  If it doesn't come with a SIM card, you won't be able to get it activated with Boost services.  However, Boost SIM cards can sometimes be found for sale on eBay.  (Again, caveat emptor)

Here's what some ScoutPals have done: You can can consider getting a used i415 without a SIM card on eBay as they are often available for as little as $10. (One more time: caveat emptor)  You would then purchase and activate another new low-cost (albeit ScoutPalSE incompatible) BoostMobile phone directly from BoostMobile.com, or at Wal-Mart, or some other retail outlet. For example, i425t's can sometimes be found on sale for under $30.  Even though the new Boost phone is incompatible with ScoutPalSE, you can get it activated with Boost, and then take its SIM out and put it into your used i415.
